Conservation
History Prior to the ’Sconset Trust’s formation, there was no foundation or other entity in ’Sconset that was in a position to receive gifts (whether of land, cash, or securities), on a tax-deductible basis. It was the Nantucket Conservation Foundation leaders who suggested the formation of the Trust, and while they work closely together, they do not overlap or duplicate each other. The Conservation Foundation, for example, is interested in assembling and conserving large land areas — moors, wetlands, dunes, and beaches. Except in unusual circumstances, it cannot receive and be responsible for small parcels of land in and around a village such as ’Sconset. |
